How to choose a speargun for spearfishing
The most used spearguns in the market are the rubber spearguns, which in turn can be classified according to their manufacture:
- Aluminum: it is the most common and the most versatile among all the options. They can be chosen in short sizes from 40cm or 50cm to more than 130 cm. They usually offer great value for money and are recommended for any level. They are available in parallel or single rubber.
- Carbon: they are lighter than the aluminum ones, offering greater maneuverability in the water and the possibility of making turns with less resistance. They are usually found in the same sizes as the aluminum ones and their price is higher because they are aimed at intermediate fishing.
- Maderos: they are made of wood and completely handcrafted and are designed for experienced anglers. They offer a different shot than the previous models, longer, more powerful and precise. They are usually available in longer sizes and mounted with monogoma.
Almost as in any purchase decision, it is very important to be aware of the use we are going to give it, since it will depend a lot on the type of fishing we practice, the type of characteristics we require.
- Fishing for waiting, falling, stalking and free waters: here we will need long spearguns, over 100cm, although we will be at the expense of the meteorological factor, since in turbid water we will have to go to 75cm, 85cm or even 90cm.
- Para hole fishing: the shortest spearguns are the most advisable as they are more practical for getting between rocks.
- Multifunctional: the most versatile and recommended for beginners is the 90cm speargun since it has a manageable size and can be used for any type of fishing.
