The waders have become, without a doubt, the fundamental garment for almost every angler. The reason is simple: it has proven to be much more effective than boots, since it allows us to walk inside the river, getting as close as possible to the fish.
The waders cover us from our feet to our chest, which obviously has many advantages, but it also has an important disadvantage: it forces us to spend entire days "stuffed" in it. Hours and hours in a garment that leaves us little freedom of movement and with which the discomfort is multiplied. But this does not have to be so, it is enough to choose the model that best suits us and the discomfort will decrease.
Comfort of movement, breathability, proper fit etc. are many features that must be taken into account.
THE GORE-TEX
The Gore-Tex has been considered one of the greatest inventions in sports equipment. It is a fabric that offers three fundamental qualities: windproof, waterproof and breathable. What more could you ask for?
It works on the basis of a very simple idea: a drop of rainwater is 20,000 times larger than the pores of Gore-Tex, while the water vapor molecule released by the body in sweat is 700 times smaller. The result: moisture is kept out and sweat is expelled. The arrival of Gore-Tex in the world of waders was a real revolution: keeping both the angler's body and the clothes he wears inside completely dry despite spending hours and hours in the river was a real achievement.
But that is not the only good thing about this fabric, we must also highlight its enormous lightness, so much so that the fisherman has the feeling of not having anything on him, and this is certainly very welcome after a long day of fishing.
Many are the advantages of gore-tex, but we must also talk about some drawbacks:

• Lack of elasticity: which undoubtedly makes the garment somewhat uncomfortable, making it difficult to move around the river. Some anglers solve this problem by acquiring a wader one size larger than their own.
• Vulnerability: they are usually so thin that they are easily punctured (although it is not normal for them to tear).
• Low insulation against the cold.

Another of the main disadvantages of gore-tex waders is undoubtedly the price, which is much higher than that of other waders. So much so that many companies have launched waders called breathable waders, mostly made of fabrics very similar to Gore-tex, which comply with the two main advantages of Gore-tex: waterproofing and breathability. It is common for all these waders to receive the generic name of " gore-texwaders", although just by looking at the price we can determine whether or not they are made of this material.
THE NEOPRENE
In spite of the fact that gore-tex has been gaining ground, the truth is that Neoprene is the material preferred by a large number of anglers who, without a doubt, have their reasons.
The first of them is protection against the cold: neoprene is the material that best protects against low temperatures and that, in the river, is something necessary.
In addition to the warmth it provides, this fabric has proven to be extremely comfortable, offering the angler total freedom of movement, thanks to its elasticity and its enormous capacity for adaptation (whatever type of movement the angler is forced to make, the neoprene will adapt to the body like a glove, without the need for complicated twisting or having to "pull" the waders).
If you decide on a neoprene wader, you will see that the market offers a wide variety of models of different characteristics and, most importantly, of all kinds of thicknesses. So you can choose a waders of only 2 mm (extremely light), to those of 5 mm, undoubtedly preferred by the vast majority to offer a much higher durability.
In recent years, work is being done in the combination of neoprene with other materials that allow to offer both durability and lightness.
Despite all these virtues, neoprene still has a trump card that clearly works against it: it is not breathable. This fabric acts as a real barrier both for water and for our sweat and this means that we often have to endure long hours with the body soaked in sweat, which is certainly not pleasant. In short, summing up the eternal doubt about gore-tex or neoprene, and although obviously everything will depend on the tastes and preferences of each fisherman in particular, we can say that a neoprene waders will be suitable for the first days of the season, when the cold is greater and we need protection, while, as the heat approaches and the problem is not the low temperatures but the sweat, we should think of a wader of gore-tex or in your case, a breathable wader.

OTHER CONDITIONERS
Although the manufacturing material is undoubtedly the most important characteristic to take into account when choosing a wader, there are other conditioning factors that may lead us to select one model over another, made of the same material:

• Reinforcements: we all know that waders have a tendency to wear out and ultimately break or break, in certain areas that we usually subject to greater work: knees and buttocks are undoubtedly two good examples. A wader that is reinforced in these areas will be ideal.
• Adaptability: nowadays, most waders have straps that allow the correct adaptation of the garment according to the fisherman's height. It is important that these straps have quick-release buckles, to make it easier to remove the waders in case of need.
• Capacity: a wader with pockets is always a plus, since it will allow us to have some of the basic elements of the equipment at hand.
• Sock versus boot: some waders are sock waders, i.e., the waders cover the feet completely, in a single garment on which the boots must be worn separately. Others, however, have the boot integrated, forming part of the wader itself.
  The choice between one model or another will depend on the preferences of each angler, since it has a lot to do with what is most comfortable for each one, and also, and very importantly, with what provides the greatest safety.
• The sole: within the waders that include the boot, we will find different types of soles: rubber, felt, with nails... although the final choice will depend, once again, on the tastes of each angler, when deciding on one or the other we must bear in mind the characteristics of the area where we normally go fishing, bearing in mind that nails will always guarantee greater stability and less risk of slipping.
