Para what is a Walkie Talki and which one should I choose?
The walkie talkies with a half-suplex communication method in which two people can not talk at the same time so we will go from being a transmitter to a receiver indistinctly.
ADVANTAGES:
- It is a free form of communication since no fee is paid for communications.
- You will not depend on the coverage anymore, since we are not connected to telephone antennas, only the range offered by our walkie and the distance to the receiver will matter.
They are very useful for any type of sporting activity in which we need to communicate with the rest of the team such as Airsoft games, hunting or skiing days in which we need to not depend on telephone antennas and communicate with the people who make up the group.
It is also very useful in mountain excursions, hiking or trekking to communicate with the group in case of separation in places where there is no mobile coverage or lines are saturated.
FEATURES:
In Spain we can use unlicensed devices that are called PMR 446 and include at least 8 predefined channels that can be expanded with new subchannels that allow us to filter communications within the same group of walkies
- 1. Range: refers to the maximum theoretical distance offered by the manufacturer in which we can communicate with the rest of the group. For real purposes, the indicated range is generally lower in reality because it will depend on the type of terrain in which we communicate, it is not the same in mountainous terrain than in desert terrain, nor is transmission on rainy or foggy days than on clear days. The longer the range offered, the lower the risk of being out of range.
- 2. Scanner: with this function we can automatically detect the channels that are busy in order to select the appropriate channel for communication.
- 3. Hands-free: this function is very useful when in our activity we need both hands because the walkie will be activated by listening to our voice directly.
- 4. Tones and vibration: if you do not want to be attentive to the sound or you need the reception of the communication to be as silent as possible, opt for terminals that offer vibration mode.
- 5. Resistance: this is where the external needs of our walkie appear, if we are going to use it in high temperatures, in water or even if we need it to be submersible to a certain depth.
- 6. Battery: there are two options, either rechargeable with batteries or with battery. We always have to take as a reference in our choice the autonomy that they can offer us in on mode and the autonomy that we require.
- 7. Size and weight: as it is a terminal that we will carry with us and our equipment, we need them to be more or less light and compact in size.
- 8. Other extras and accessories: whether they offer timers, earphones, serve to monitor the baby or include features such as dual listening, or emergency transmission, are features that you should value their usefulness as it will depend on the budget and the situation where you want to use your walkie.
