• Flexibility: stretch the monofilament and check its elongation before breakage. If it can elongate 20% without deforming (i.e. recovering its initial position), it is a good line, but if it remains stiff, it should be discarded
• Hardness: tie a knot in the line, if it is very hard it will break when subjected to a little more than half of its breaking load. If it breaks at 70%, it is a monofilament with good characteristics. Keep in mind that this resistance decreases by 10% when the yarn is wet

So a line with a strength of 2 pounds will hold a dead weight of 1 kilo; however, by increasing a few milligrams more, the line may break.
The maximum size allowed by the IGFA for sport fishing is 130 pounds, while the lightest line on the market has a strength of 2 pounds.
You should keep in mind that the lower the strength of the line, the thinner the line will be and the less visible it will be to the fish. We recommend that you always opt for a line whose resistance is twice the weight of the pieces caught. If you are going to fish in clear waters; in case you are going to fish in an area with abundant vegetation, a line three times bigger will be better.
Another of the fundamental points that must be taken into account in a line is its elasticity; that is, its stretching capacity. Thus, a line that is very elastic will transmit the pulls and the thrust made to the lure late; while if the elasticity is not very elastic, it will be faster but at the same time it will make both reel and rings suffer.
